Ponteland Lions helped Clare Stephenson organise an Open Day at Eland Green Farm to allow people to view the lovely garden. All the proceeds were given to the British Red Cross. Over 250 people visit the gardens and many enjoyed a scone and tea served by the Lions. There was a small bookstall and Cowell’s Garden Centre donated a dozen plants for sale. Out thanks to the young tennis players for their exhibition match.
This year’s Swimarathon on Saturday November 16th was a great success and raised thousands of pounds for local charities. The Lions have agreed to give their money to Children North East. Our thanks to everyone who took part in the event and to the Leisure Centre for the loan of the pool.
PONTELAND LIONS SUPPORT RNLI VOLUNTEERS
Members of Ponteland Lions recently visited their local RNLI Lifeboat Station at Cullercoats to present a cheque for £2000 to purchase new, state of the art life jackets for the entire crew.
The new design features improved bouyancy and greater flexibility, with a variety of storage features for vital accessories such as flares, lights, linking strops and a knife.
Volunteer crew members are delighted to have individually issued life jackets, adjusted to their own dimensions which will fit immediately when donned, saving precious moments during the rush to launch the lifeboat.
The donation from Ponteland Lions was funded by the sponsorship raised at their Annual Swimarathon held last November, an event generously supported by many local schools, organisations and small businesses.
