LION YOMI SOBO SORTS OUT SPECTACLES COLLECTED FROM LOCAL OPTICIANS
What do you do with your redundant spectacles?
Instead of pushing them to the back of a drawer, get them out and take them to the local opticians, HB Opticians on Broadway or Stevens on Main Street. They are then collected by local Lion Yomi Sobo, cases thrown away, then packed up and sent to Chichester Lions Club to be processed by local volunteers and recycled for use in Africa, India and Eastern Europe. Quite a sophisticated operation depending on help from various carriers and expert volunteers! Lion Yomi has been involved for the last twenty years in these collections and they need you to leave your unwanted specs at the opticians mentioned. Prisoners at Frankland Gaol in Durham used a machine to grade the lenses in spectacles, the first stage of recycling. A few Ponteland Lions visited some years ago. It was distinctly strange watching a murderer measure the lenses and then assign them to their allotted boxes!
